Ms Dawn Mokhobo is one of South Africa’s leading business-women, with a successful and pioneering career spanning the public, private and parastatal sectors. Her talents and accomplishments were recognised by her appointment as the first African woman to the management board of Eskom, as Executive Director in charge of Growth and Development.
In addition, she won the prestigious Business Woman of the Year Award in 1993. In 1994 she was honoured with an invitation to serve as one of the Independent Electoral Commissioners who ran South Africa’s first democratic elections. In 1995 she was invited by the Minister of Safety and Security to serve as the chairperson of the high-powered Promotions Committee for the South African Police Service. In 1996 Ms Mokhobo was nominated as chairperson of the United Nations Special Committee of Experts appointed to address the global issue of women and senior economic decision making.
She is a Chairperson of Wesizwe Platinum Pty (Ltd) and also serves on the boards of Engen Limited, Sabvest Pty (Ltd) and The Altron Group (the latter two being listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange). In addition she serves on the board of Cricket South Africa as an Independent Non-Executive Director.
Ms Mokhobo previously served as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Massmart Holdings Limited, Sanlam (Pty) Ltd, The Tsepo Group (as chairperson), Metropolitan Life Pty (Ltd), and was also the chairperson of the Long Term Ombudsman Council and a founder member of Nozala Investments Limited.
Yasser is the leader of the AIA team and has over a decade of hands-on experience in Operational Efficiency, Capacity Building and Organisational Transformation projects in the public, parastatal and private sectors. He brings a highly pragmatic approach to all of his assignments which is critical in the South African context.
During his time at AIA, Yasser identified and recognised the importance of a client’s ability to deliver on its strategy and the lack thereof being a key inhibitor to successful implementation. This, coupled with the critical importance of skills transfer, sustainability and empowerment of our clients, has driven Yasser to lead from the front on several capacity building assignments at Executive, Senior and Middle management levels with a strong focus on Action Learning and Project-Based Action Learning.
Hasnayn leads the AIA strategy consulting practice. With a BSc Honours in Engineering, Hasnayn brings over a decade of career experience. Hasnayn spent the better part of a decade in the engineering and operations environment, which has given him a sound understanding in Operational Efficiency, Process Re-engineering and the development of practical solutions through analytical means.
At AIA, Hasnayn shifted his focus to predominantly the Strategy environment and has advised Blue-chip Companies, Government Departments, Parastatals & State Owned Entities in Corporate and Business Strategies, Regional Growth Strategies (Africa in particular), Market Entry Strategies, Mergers & Acquisitions, Portfolio Prioritisation, Stakeholder Engagement and Transformation / B-BBEE.
Hasnayn has engaged on a Board, Executive and Senior Management level as a strategic advisor and facilitator, helping clients address critical issues and has ensured that sustainable value creation is realised on all of his engagements
James has worked on and successfully led both private and public sector projects, which have included strategic planning and development, in-depth market research, financial modelling, and process re-engineering and design. He has a strong analytical drive which supports AIA’s data-driven approach to solution development.
James drives AIA’s analytics function which supports our and our clients’ decision making processes and include Financial, Economic & Statistical Modelling, Market Research, Monitoring & Evaluation Frameworks and Surveys.
His primary focus within the analytics function has been on the development of Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) models for large (R100 million – R10 billion) capital projects. In addition he has developed models for scenarios analysis, B-BBEE optimisation and break-even analysis (amongst others).
James holds a BCom degree in Investment Management from the University of Pretoria, as well as a BCom Honours degree in Business Management, specialising in Financial Management from UNISA. Prior to AIA, James joined Absa as a member of the highly regarded Graduate Programme, and was entrusted with the financial monitoring and reporting of 26 private pension and provident funds, including the Pension Fund for the Financial Services Board and the Road Accident Fund Pension Fund.
